Melanie DonovanTitle: Technical Director, Events Coordinator Melanie has always had an affinity for the dramatic arts, whether on stage or backstage. She holds a B.A. in Fine and Performing Arts from The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and continues to further her education through classes at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. After graduating, Melanie served as a production intern at Mass MoCA, and has since worked on community shows with The Valley Light Opera in Amherst and more recently with the Gilbertville Players here in Hardwick.
Melanie sees her role here at the Cultural Center in two parts. One aspect is coordinating the technical and design efforts for public programming, working with Sean Hunley and the visiting artists to create beautiful and well run performances at the Cultural Center. This could involve anything from designing and implementing theatrical lighting, to preparing equipment, to running the technical side of a show. As part of this work, Melanie coordinates the efforts of a team of Eagle Hill School student interns—the other critical aspect of her work. She works daily with the interns, teaching them to identify and safely use the equipment here at the Cultural Center, which is similar to what they will find in many colleges and professional theaters. She guides interns through all the steps of stage lighting, from design, to hanging the lights, to programming the light board. |
