STAR: Students, Teachers, Artists-in-Residence
Take a look at our current residency.
The STAR Collaboration at Eagle Hill School advances artistic approaches to education by connecting diverse learners to accomplished artists who live, learn, and create new work on campus.
The STAR Collaboration invites artists of all disciplines to come away for a semester of focused art work, and to come together with our students and teachers to facilitate really cool learning adventures.
STAR residents are accomplished artists, and also educators-at-heart who want to work with young people while expanding the definition of what being an educator means; who are interested in novel, interdisciplinary educational approaches; and who thrive on collaboration with others.
We provide STAR artists with studio facilities; a monthly stipend; dedicated, distraction-free time to make art; and opportunities to develop teaching skills through professional development relationships with mentor teachers. Beginning in 2010, we will also provide an apartment close to the Cultural Center. We work with each artist to find a healthy balance of creative sanctuary and community engagement.
By working beside students, informally mentoring and modeling, STAR residents can wield powerful, positive influence on passionate, talented, budding artists. To broaden and deepen that influence, we also work with each resident artist to craft a more formal collaboration that:
These customized, versatile, flexible collaborations can involve any combination of elements including after school activities, studio visits, apprenticeships, media documentation, workshops, lectures, slide shows, and collaborative performances.

"As we nurture the child who loves dance, writing, or painting, we must be ready to support the choreographer, novelist, or artist that this child might one day become."
